SkyBladeCloud a écrit:Ivé seen you guys have a very good level (I´ve been following some of your project during the last two months). So... Sorry to necropost, but is someone still interested or need help, the other day I started coding a toolchain to decomple the text engine used in Star Ocean (both of them). So far, I´ve extracted all the story script (you may check it out):

Even though the compression is easy to crack, the text system is a little confusing (it´s similar, but a little more difficult than the one found in Valkyrie Profile) so I havent reverted everything. I´m doing this for a Spanish translation. If anyone wants to help or just need help for his own project on this, I can offer my help too. Please, note that I´m doing all this in the PSP version of the saga.

Funny. I worked on these two games six months ago, just to see what we could do after Lenneth. The similarities with Valkyrie Profile are astonishing. I think I spent perhaps 8 or 10 hours on these projects, mainly to decipher some kanji of the font, with great help from GreatSkaori. All in all, it was incredibly easy to slightly adapt data and tools of VP to extract SO script. Here's the result I got at the time:

As you can see, except meaning of some tags, it was already pretty complete

Oh, about your files, I have some remarks to do. You choose to extract each room's text in a separate file, without removing duplicate messages and even without numbering pointer (!!!). Ouch. That looks like a big mess. Don't you think it's a bit harsh for translators?
Futhermore, your parsing of tags should be improved (for example, color tags are always incorrectly interpreted). And what about japanese characters?
